Sulu Gov and first lady renew confidence and pride on Sulu Culture and Heritage

Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan and Sulu First Lady a. Nurunisah A. Tan spearheaded Tuesday morning 09 February 2010 the unveiling of a new and revitalized National Museum in the Province of Sulu, representing National Museum Manila Director Cozaron Alvina is Director Eufemia Catolin of National Museum Zamboanga City. Witnessing the event are B/Gen Rustico Guerrero, Task Force Comet Commander, S/Supt. Joseph Ramac, Sulu Police Director, Sulu mayors and their spouses, Heads of line agencies and other provincial officials. The curator of the National Museum Sulu Branch is Hja. Langca Tapsirul Dahum.

A project of Gov. Abdusakur M. Tan thru the initiative of Sulu first Lady Hja. Nurunisah A. Tan, aims to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the people of Sulu. �People are distinguished and identified by their respective culture, traditions and civilization� said Mrs. Tan. � We don�t like to see the repository of our heritage, the museum, to be lost by neglect and effects of time. Like a vault to safekeep our , the museum must also be in a condition where our valued heritage be stored� she added.

The project includes the general rehabilitation and renovation of the museum, and the donation of items of historical and cultural value from different personalities like , Mayors, Heads of departments and offices , barangay chairman, friends and relatives of the sulu first couple and private individuals. Mrs. Tan, wrote and approached these individuals and is very grateful for their positive response.

Director Eufemia Catolin praised and recognized the initiative of the Hja. Nurunisah A. Tan and thanked Gov. Abdusakur Tan for his approval and support of the project. �This is a start of a fruitful collaboration� she said.

�It is only thru our past that we can know our future�, remarked Gov. Tan. In his message he emphasized that there is a need to rewrite Sulu history, I always believed in its glorious past, and that SULU is the cradle of civilization in the Philippines, Sulu he said has a very rich history.

Gov. Tan reminded all officials and the audience that we must give our children good memories, and impart good habits, for them to have better character, confidence and proud of the past, a positive and brighter future.

The Governor and Mrs. Tan lead all guests on a tour of the Museum, on display are various pictures of the old Sulu, Past Sultans, utensils, indigenous furnitures, weapons, artworks and other historical imprints of the people of Sulu.

The Sulu first couple said that collection of artifacts and other items of importance will be a continuing effort, they would be tireless in asking everyone to donate invaluable items, better guarded and preserved, and have their rightful place in the museum (Sulu-PIO)
